How it works:
Once you sign up, your profile will be provided an html code (on your "link code" page in your user control panel), which produces a tracking image (one of which is viewable at the bottom of this page). This code can then be placed anywhere on your website. Take a look at some of the top 10 ranked sites, to get some ideas as to where, and/or how to place yours. All that really matters is that the image be "viewed" by all the users frequenting your site. If it's on your homepage, every user that visits your homepage will "view" it, even if you have a large, long page, and the icon is at the bottom (such as it is, here). If you put it on other pages, such as in a links section, or voting page, only users that specifically go to those pages will count in your rank. So, put it somewhere high traffic, whenever possible.For every unique IP address that "views" the tracking image, a "hit" will be recorded for that day, accumulating into weeks, months, and years. Your average daily rank, taken from the last 10 days, will determine your rank. Should it become necessary, this can be changed by the battlefield2topsites admins to be a weekly, or even a monthly rank. Your rank will be displayed on your specific sites tracking icon, unless you are outside of the top 50 sites. Later on, we may add additional image ranks, perhaps up to 100, should it become necessary.
Remember, only unique hits per day determine your rank. Not repeated refreshes by the same users, not spammed votes and ratings, and not even the number of times people click on your icon. This was a specific design decision by those managing this site, so that it is a level playing field among all sites. Spammed votes, repeated refreshing of tracking images, and other techniques should not allow low traffic, low usage sites to recieve high ranks, simply because 2 or 3 users decide to spam hits and votes. The tracker is as fair as it gets, and hopefully, will be the new trend for all topsites. Any that we create certainly will be.
Some rules that are strictly enforced:
1. Any site that is suspected of cheating will be contacted immediately, and the matter will be resolved either by explanation or by removal of the site. This is a website ranking system, NOT a server ranking system. The ranking icon is not intended or allowed to be used for any in-game functions, such as on a server "Message of the Day". Also, tracking icons for your website must exist only on your website and/or forums. It can not be 'outsourced' to other sites unrelated to your clan/community (like a myspace page, or other unrelated content). All reports will be investigated, and it is up to the admins of battlefield2topsites.com to determine the resolution.2. We reserve the right to restrict or remove any site that is not directly related to BF2. Also, should sites begin ranking highly, however when investigated appear to be nothing more than spam or suspicious content, they will be removed and banned by IP.
3. We can not guarantee that all sites are friendly to minors, or safe for work browsing. Thus, all users and registered sites participate at their own risks. We will CAREFULLY review as many sites as we can, especially those ranking highly, for their content and appropriateness, however we can not promise that all sites are 100% clean all the time.
4. To keep your spot in the ranks, your site must be producing hits that are recorded by the tracking icon. This does not mean that you must have a minimum amount of traffic. It simply means that, whereever and however you have placed the icon, it must be tracking properly, and reporting statistics for your site. If not, the tracking software will automatically delete you after a set period of inactivity.
5. All registered sites must create a custom banner to represent their community in the rankings. This banner must be no more than 700x100 pixels wide. It must also be relevant to their community, not offensive, and unique. We provide a standard one for all sites, however it should only be there as a reminder to make your own.
6. Voting/reviewing yours and other sites is encouraged. However, ranks are not based on votes. The votes (stars) that a site gets are merely an indication of the sites popularity among it's users, as well as other communities throughout the world. Any irrelevant reviews that are submitted for a website can and will be deleted if they are deemed spam, overly insulting, offensive, or baseless. Please, don't arbitrarily review sites you haven't visited, just to give them a bad rating, and/or insult them. Such reviews will be removed by the battlefield2topsites admins, and can be requested by the site being reviewed.
7. We promise not to repeatedly contact you, or pass out your registration information (email) to anyone, ever. If there is an issue that requires your attention, we may email you, but that will be a rare occurrence. Again, we're not here to advertise and bother you. We're here to help you network and stay connected with other members of the BF2 community.
